Chipper the Prairie Dog Series..
Observed the prairie dogs yesterday as a storm was threatening over the mountains… They were more interested in watching me than worrying about the coming storm. Eventually when the lightening over the mountains became more frequent, the smaller dogs disappeared but the “watch” dogs stayed out and ate their supper. We never got more than a few sprinkles from the storm.
Noticed that their is more than one “red” coated prairie dog, and a few that look like they have a red tint to their coat.
I think that is really sweet. I love your book too. It is so funny. I am lokniog forward to reading Slipping. I’m glad I picked up Little Blog on the Prairie; now i have another author to love! Thanks for writing!
Anita,
Funny thing is… the prairie dogs have moved on to the property on the other side. They only left one hole active on our property that they use to eat the grasses here that are different in the field. I guess the dog coming out several times a day, and the occasional visit by the cat, deterred them from settling on our land.
Of course, the fact that we dumped used cat litter down the holes was also a deterrent as I hear they hate cats!
Please don’t poison the prarie dogs. Get a coyote….
Chased a prairie dog across our property into a hole he had dug in our yard! Chippered at him and told him to stay away, then filled in the hole….. I don’t mind if they come on my property to eat grass, but digging holes is not allowed as they are dangerous to humans and dogs. But what can we do — aren’t they protected as an endangered species.. will have to do some research on that…

I am looking forward to adding to these notes… Thought of another topic to write on… the prairie dogs are trying to move into our property….so how can we keep them on their side of the stream?
