End of Semester Yeahs and Woes
So can anyone read this if it is on your learningbyts site, or is it password protected there? If it is free for anyone to see on learningbyts, then all this covert stuff is rather silly. I think I would like it to be anonymous, and then I feel like I can say anything I want to say. That does not mean we cannot let certain trusted souls in to comment, but then we do take the risk that they could cut and paste something we have said. However, if they were trusted souls, they would not do that. Therefore, that only leaves us with concern for each other and our abilities to identify a trusted soul. I am up for anything, just let me know because what we decide will factor into what I am willing to say.
By the way, I hate the comment thing. You have to open it up and read it every time. I can never remember if there were three or four comments there the last time. Therefore, I keep opening the comments and reading the same ones. It feels like I keep banging my head against a wallâ€â€tha-thump, tha-thumpâ€â€over and over again.
It is finals week. I have class confusion over when my final is given. Every year this happens because I am unorganized and do not have my syllabus with me in class. Then someone reads the information off the campus bulletin and reads the wrong time out loud to everyone in class. So half the class writes down her/his verbal time stated in class, and the other half comes at the time stated in the syllabus. Ultimately, they are all responsible for reading the time in the syllabus, but try to tell them that. I email them to remind them of the correct time, and I place it in the BB announcements; it still always comes off to my lack of organization—which sucks at the end of a semester with everything I have to do and grade to end out a semester.
Our provost, Barbara M. just resigned effective august 2006. I do not know if you know that our President resigned also. He resigned about one month agoâ€â€right before the C&D vote. Do you think this a good time in the institution’s history to go menopausally, raised Italian, animated on administration? I think not.
It is just my turn to look for a new job. LOL I told Zach that if he went to school at Western (Gunnison) that I was going to follow him. LOL It is gorgeous there, and I am only living here so he can finiah his high school years with his friends.
My friend, Lyn, has been telling me to look for a job for about a year now, but not so that I could avoid mass exidous. Rather, she was just concerned because of stuff that relates back to my menopausally, raised Italian animated issues. But maybe she was on to something. LOL
I think the entire BM thing had to do with the fact that at a meeting with the FC chancelor held on our campus, faculty showed up and complained about her and her decisions. In her letter she stated something to the effect that she made her decisions based on what she truly believed was in everyone’s best interest, and now she realizes that is not how it was perceived. Given how long she works and the fact that it was somehow pointed out to her that she was working for the wrong things, she felt she should return to faculty and enjoy her new grandchild.
SO I am not sure if it was a personal matter, or if it was a larger picture????
There was an article last week in the Denver Post about an overhaul of the whole university system in Colorado, but I thought it was just someone speculating… I’ll have to dig up the article…
Here it is:

Here’s one from yesterday..

Looks like they are not out of the woods, yet… ;-(
Why would they both resign? That sounds wierd to me ? Think they know something you don’t?
I thought the referandums passed and that the colleges were saved.

I love the comments in this format!
Hmmm…. Maybe you should award extra points for anyone who just gets to the final at the right day and time…
OR… wave the “your responsible for your own learning” flag in front of them.. they will have to use it many times with kids.. get them used to the saying..
Hmm.. sounds like big changes coming your way… not sure what the C& D is..
What do you think of the comments in this format, instead?
Our other alternatives are to get a wikki… which is where we can add our writing right into the box (and overwrite or erase each other’s work).
OR… use something like Tapped In (a free version of BB) where the topics are threaded. It’s free for teachers, and both Anita and I have virtual offices there. When something new is posted to the discussion, it is marked as new.
OR… we can go to something like Google Groups, that’s more of a discussion list, but again it can be threaded, and you can see all comments.
We can also make this VERY private so that noone but us sees and comments. However, one of us wanted it open for public comments. So we need to discuss it..
Let me know what you want to do..
OR… let me try changing one thing…
