The next phases…..

It’s been awhile since I posted here.. a lot of changes have occurred since then.

We finally did move her into the nursing home for long term care about a year and a half ago.  She was not happy with it, and kept wanting to go back to assisted living.  And the state and federal agencies have gotten on the bandwagon that they want all seniors in the lowest costing facility that meets their needs.  So they visit the nursing home every few months to check with the patients to see where they want to live.  And of course mom wants to go back to assisted living!

We’ve gone through a couple rounds now of applying and her spending hours searching and calling places on her cell phone.  We’ve even been to visit a few, but then she’d pass out the information to other people in her residence and they’d beat her to the bed.  She hasn’t learned.  However, in the long run that’s been good any way because very few places can accommodate her electric wheelchair. 

Her physical condition has deteriorated slightly (after a trip to the hospital for a week and a half), so things are becoming more challenging for her.  In addition, her dog’s condition is getting worse, and I suspect she won’t make it through the summer, so Mom’s worried about her as well.  Her disposition has deteriorated with her physical one, and she’s becoming more demanding (not just needy, but demanding).  We’ve tried to bring her home for a day the last several weeks, but it’s getting harder and harder on her physically.  We’ve done it mainly to give her a chance to be with her dog.  But last time she was here she commented that it was getting too hard to go back and forth. 

However, she’s planning another rondeveau with her ex-bo sometime soon when he comes through town. So I hope that she can handle that as he has a pick-up truck to have to climb into.
