Oh the challenges!
Oh the challenges of caretaking senior citizens! I’m at the point with Mom, an 81 year old with cardiac related dementia among many other ailments, that she is about out of money and will have to move from assisted living into a nursing home.
She truly thinks she can still be independent, yet the assisted living facility agrees that independent living is not where she should be. In addition, they are charging us $2000 above the regular price for all the medical services they give her above and beyond the normal.
We just recently in the last several months have moved her out of independent living into assisted living, and she is burning through her finances so fast that she will be out of funds in another couple of months. How do you have the conversation with her? How do you prepare her for this move? She really wants to come live with me, and in my heart I’d love to be able to accomodate her. However, I need to work full time, so would need a caretaker for her during the day, and help with bathing, etc. I’ve had her here for a couple of days at a time, and wind up being exhausted after that short period of time.
So …. how do you start that conversation??
