Golden Reflections- Life & Love in our Senior Years
Life (and Love) in the golden years has many facets to it. The fact that we’ve reached these golden years is considered a privilege as many people are denied that life choice. Living those golden years comes with many blessings as well as many challenges.
Having survived a half century ( and pushing to 3/4 of a century) or more gives a sense of being able to handle whatever life throws at us because after all, we HAVE survived the many ups and downs of life. Many have survived the death of a spouse, or a divorce, raising children and all the ups and downs that comes with them.
As I approach the year anniversary of meeting the love of my life, I find myself reflecting on what relationships truly mean at this stage of life. As the adults who have progressed through the life stages mentioned above, we realize that love can be fleeting particularly as we reach the final quarter century of our lives. We both know that we will leave each other at some time in this quarter, so it makes us want to grab every moment we can, while we can.
The fact that I have someone to wake up next to at this stage, makes me start each day with gratitude. The fact that my partner beats me to making coffee and breakfast every morning is a boon I didn’t count on, but makes me very appreciative. Planning and juggling activities for the day is made much more pleasant when done with a partner. Encouraging each other to exercise helps us keep these old bodies moving on a daily basis. And having someone to download with at the end of the day, is precious. We make sure we do puzzles together to keep our minds nimble, and the cuddling keeps the body nimble as well. Life is good!
