Week 6 - Comparing Food Diaries (Math Connection)

Now that you have learned all about nutrition and the Food Pyramid, it's time to test to see if you have changed your eating habits. You will need a second copy of the worksheet from Week 1 . Circle the "After" on the top of the worksheet so that you know that this is your second diary.

Keep the food diary again for this week.

Did your eating habits change? At the end of the week, tally your results. Then choose a graph to best represent the data for the two diaries.

This would be a good time to use some of the Math skills you have learned. Do you remember how to create a double bar graph? You can use a spreadsheet on your computer to gather the data like this:

Then you can graph it on paper, or let the computer program make a chart like this:

Remember to include the appropriate parts of a graph that you have learned in Math class, such as the horizontal and vertical labels, the main title and axis titles, the legend, and the correct intervals on the graph. If you need these explained further, check with your Math teacher.

What do your graphs show you? Are you eating healthier? Tell us about your results by posting your graph and your explanation on the Discussion Board under the Food Diaries topic.
