Telling us about you
(Finding your global address & time zone)

Welcome aboard the CJX! The BYTMobile bound for CyberSpace! You have passed your entrance exam by finding your way here. Before you take off on any expeditions, though, you need to fill out your passport.

Getting your passport

So click on the login button above, and click on the word "apply". Follow the onscreen directions. If you need more help, click on the yellow help button and choose "How do students get a CyberJourneys Passport?". Megan and Carlos, from "Kids@Work" will give you step by step directions.

When you have finished getting your passport, return to the book for the next step in your training as a crew member aboard the CJX, the BytMobile that brought you here and that is preparing for your first expedition.

Sending E-Mail

From the passport page, you can find a friend that has your interests. Check the book for directions on how to send email. If you need more help you can check with Carlos & Megan on the help page here. Then send your new friend an email message introducing yourself. Or you can leave them a message on the Message Board under Messages to CJX Crew Members. Remember, the message board is like a bulletin board that everyone can see, so post only public messages here.

Telling Us About You - Using the Message Board

Ok, it's getting close to take off time for the first expedition, and you need to let the pilot of the CJX know where to pick you up. Since she is coming from her last stop at the Writing PODs in cyberspace, she needs to know where on earth you are. So you will have to give her your global address. That means she will need your latitude and longtitude. You received a brief description of these terms in the book, but if you need more practice or want to do fun activities, click on Kids@Work -Global Address.

To send your message to Karissa telling her your global address, click on Message Board - Global Address. She will send you a response on the Karisa's Response page, so keep checking back.

You will also need to know what time she is picking you up. She will tell you in "GMT" time, and you will have to figure out your "GMT Offset Time" or what time that is equal to on your local clock. These websites can help you figure out that time:

Times Around the World from Kidlink
World Time Zones

Be sure to record both your global address and your GMT Offset Time on the worksheet in your notebook.

OK..... when you reach your GMT time, choose a research station to visit and click on its link below. Happy Researching!!!
