There are many projects on the Web that are kid friendly and curriculum compatible. Most of them are done by teachers and classes sending email to each other. We are currently involved in a project where we have kept a food diary and will share our data with other schools around the world. We will also be comparing grocery prices for certain foods. Think of the discussions we will have about currency, food habits, time zones, etc. This will lead into our recycling unit comparing data about recycling around the world.
There are lots of Martin Luther King projects, also. In one project the students are writing 5 lines about their dreams for America. Think of the editing needed to share with the globe.
My class recently created projects on Native Marylanders and when they heard that it was going to be on a Web page, they asked ME to help them proofread and spell check. It really motivated them to look for excellence. (The project is online but not working , yet. I need to do more research with the software to get it to work on our server so that all computers can see it.)
