A Grandmother Storybook - collaborative writing

Students' Discussions on Grandmother topics

Welcome to our multi-lingual, KIDPROJ, long term project about grandmothers around the world! Join us as we celebrate across cultures, languages and generations. Students of all ages through secondary school are invited to participate.

Students from around the world are encouraged to tell everyone the name they call their grandmother, ways they spend time (or did spend time) with their grandmother and why she is very special. Grandmother text should be sent to the KIDPROJ mailing list. Please draw a picture of your grandmother and send it to: Patti Weeg.

Project Time Line

Inspired by Carla Hurchalla's book, Friends On-Line we developed Grandmother and Me in May 2000 and will continue the project indefinitely as a long term project.

Project Goals

The Grandmother and Me project gives students an opportunity to celebrate culture, language and generations with other Kildink students using the writing process and art. Additionally, students will:

  1. participate in their own language (as well as English)
  2. record names given to grandmothers around the world
  3. list reasons why grandmothers are special
  4. write a collaborative story about grandmothers
  5. spend time visiting and talking to their grandmothers
  6. share stories, recipes, songs and other interesting information provided by grandmothers
  7. examine, organize, graph, analyze data and draw conclusions from the grandmother entries
  8. use art to express ideas and bridge language barriers
