At the present time, Barb
has retired from Harford County School District as a Middle School Computer
Ed teacher, She previously had taught online for Insight School of Wisconsin
and Connections Academy. Before returning to MD, Barb had been an Educational
Technology Specialist in Douglas County School District Re-1 near Denver,
CO. The DCSD position involved working with teachers in the classrooms of
14 elementary schools to integrate technology. In addition, she was involved
in several district committees. .The Connections Academy position included
a couple of capacities including creating a staff development plan, managing
elective teachers, and teaching online technology courses.
Previously, Barb had returned to the elementary
classroom as the 5th Grade as a Technology teacher in a small rural school
at the base of Greenhorn Mountain, in Rye, Colorado. She had returned to keep
in touch with students and the technology needs of the classrooms of today,
and share her expertise in integrating technology across the curriculum.
She completed her Ph.D. in Computing
Technology for Educators at Nova Southeastern Universityin 2012. Her dissertation
research focused on how teachers successfully use their TPACK skills to utiize
Web 2.0 tools in the Middle School classroom.
Barb previously held the position of Creator and Coordinator of Online courses as well as an Instructional Technology Specialist at CSU-Pueblo. This position included aiding Education faculty in using technology in their pre-service teacher education courses, and developing and coordinating online courses in the program. In addition, she was instrumental in matching curriculum to standards so the university could attain accreditation.
Before CSU-Pueblo, she was the Instructional Design Specialist at University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she assisted faculty in including technology in their curriculum, and putting their courses online. She also co-taught a course entitled "A Practicum in School Instructional Systems Development - Technology for Teachers", where she assisted pre-service teachers in integrating technology into their classroom experiences.
Barb previously taught for over 20 years in Elementary classrooms from Pre-K to 5th grade, with the concentration in the intermediate grades. She utilized the internet extensively during the last decade of the 20th Century and into the Millenium. She was the computer coordinator and technology trainor in her district.
